Re’Shae Green traveled to New York as Corey Fields’ longtime girlfriend in early September but returned to her hometown as a fiancée after an encounter with a very special taxi.
“I was crossing the street when I looked at a taxi that had a sign saying, ‘Will you marry me’ on the trunk,” the 29-year-old children’s book author recalled, laughing, during a conversation with The New York Post.
“Before I could even question if it was for me, Corey was smiling and searching his pocket for the ring. Then he got down on one knee—and I was in shock,” Green remembered.
The retro-styled taxi, decorated with silk flowers and a bright display reading “Marry Me,” is quickly becoming the most popular proposal setting in New York City, according to The Post.
Fields, 29, who teaches coding to children near Washington, D.C., enlisted videographer Elena Komarova and Qusai Smirat and Chandler Fowles from Enchanting Engagements to curate his surprise proposal.
After seeing Komarova’s photos of the chichi cab (a 1978 vehicle that Smirat and Fowles offer for $1,000 per proposal) on social media, Fields set his plan in motion to propose to Green.
“I was nervous. When we [approached the taxi], I told her, ‘There’s one last thing I want to do before we leave New York,’” Fields told The New York Post. “I got the proposal [of my dreams] in the city where dreams come true,” Green added.
